NaNoWriMo 2010

This was my eighth attempt at NaNoWriMo and this year, just as in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006, I made it to 50,000 words.

Good things about doing NaNoWriMo this year for me:

I get a buzz out of writing so many words. I just spend the month thinking about my story and what might happen next and it fills my head with such ideas and that feels amazing.

This year it has also made me realise that I have many stories to tell these days, maybe not ones I necessarily told during NaNoWriMo, but just in general.

It gives me a project to do, something to work on, in the gaps in my life where I might otherwise get bored.

It has encouraged me to write more and realise I still enjoy writing. I used to write frequently, but then when I bought a camera, I began to take photos instead of writing.

The social aspect, participating in NaNoWriMo alongside other great people, at write-ins, in the forums, IRC, etc.

Eating weird ice-cream flavours at write-ins.

It makes me feel like anything is possible.

Nice one! It seems to have been a blessed year - I've never seen so many people on my friends list make it as I have this year.

I see you've written lots. :) Congratulations!

Some years it has been a struggle for me, but this year, it was mostly pretty good, the ideas seemed to flow readily.

The problem now, as ever, is what to do next.

You have a poet's touch if ever I've seen one. Combine your written word with pictures, go down the art path?

I think first I need to do some of those chores I have been mostly neglecting for the past month, but maybe I should contemplate such things after that.

Congratulations! I have nowhere near finished - I'm struggling to reach 10k words tonight, which I was hoping might be my total for the end of the month, but I'm quite pleased with myself for even getting this far.

What do you do with your 50,000 words once you've done them?

Still over an hour left! You can reach that 10k.

I mostly just forget about my 50,000 words after I've written them, although fairly recently, I found some ones I had written in previous years and they were not nearly as bad as I had thought.

Nope; 320 short. It don't really matter, though.

It seems odd to not go back and do something with that much effort. Then again I have no idea what I'm going to do with mine...

Well done!

Where do you hang out on IRC, by the way?

For NaNo? There are different places, depending on where you are located and other such things.

Well done :D

Will we be allowed to read it?

It's quite badly written, so am not likely to let anyone read it. I might actually get around to editing one of my previous ones sometime though!
